The Devil On My Shoulder
On one shoulder, I have an angel enthusiastically encouraging me to participate in my very first game jam.
...but on the other shoulder...
The Devil On My Shoulder places you in the shoes of... well... me! Join me on my quest to design a game (specifically, this game - things get meta real quick) over the course of a weekend for my very first game jam, notwithstanding my non-qualifications and the nebulous negative nudging of a nefarious nay-saying ne'er-do-well nestled naughtily next to my neck!
Part 2D platformer and part interactive narrative, The Devil On My Shoulder sees you (me) struggling to make a game jam game before the weekend is up. At a loss for ideas, and plagued by your (my) incessant insecurities, you (I) decide to make a game about making the game, while those insecurities try to sabotage you (me) at every turn. Your choices shape the outcome of the game*, but be mindful of the time you have left when deciding whether to add a new feature; an unfinished game can't be submitted to the game jam, and scope creep is the devil's only friend!
*They shape the outcome, but like, in a fairly superficial way. (This is a game jam game, after all, and my very first one at that.)
-----
This game was made for Mini Jam 111, the theme of which was "you are your own worst enemy." Since that theme describes every moment of my life anyway, I figured this was the perfect excuse to wrangle my self doubt into submission, get some good practice in a new game engine, and live out a life-long dream of publishing a video game. Hope you enjoy it!
UPDATE 1: THIRD PLACE OVERALL IN THE JAM!!!!! I'm blown away!!! Thank you so much to everyone who played, rated, and provided feedback!!! I appreciate all your support and all your feedback more than you know. :)
UPDATE 2: In response to a comment I received during the jam, I've uploaded a Windows version of the game! This is all still uncharted territory to me, so please let me know if you run into any issues with this version!

it's almost 4 in the morning and I spent a lot of time just on my phone and I almost was about to scratch looking at one more game (this is the 40th game from the jam I'm rating) but HOLY did I not regret taking a look at this one! it's so impressive that your first published game is so well constructed and looks very polished. this along with "pink" are probably going to the most 'memorable in a good way' games from this jam for me. I played it 3 times and everything flows so well, I love it
Oh my gosh, thank you so much! (I'm certainly glad you didn't scratch looking at it, haha.) Having just played "Pink" myself a few hours ago, I know what a huge compliment that is! And 3 times?!? I'm flattered!!! Thank you again! :)
Really cool use of the limitation, fantastic work for a first game jam, LOVE THE MUSIC!! Keep it up and I'm sure you'll keep getting better. I'm proud of you for trying your hardest, keep up the great work <3
Thanks so much! (I was pleasantly surprised by how the music turned out myself, haha.) I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
